The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained twelve members of a notorious pirate gang from different areas of the Bay and Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila on Saturday.
The arrestees are – Anwar, Liakot, Monir, Abul Khair, Nabir Hossain, Nezamuddin, Humayun, Shahed, Saddam, Atik, Emran and Amanullah.
The elite force also recovered a boat, 3 one-shooter guns, one Chinese axe, 16 daggers and knives, a binocular, six lights, 2 hand-mics, 70 mobile phones, fishing nets and Tk 5,700 in cash from their possession, said a media release on Saturday.
RAB arrests 12 pirates with arms in Ctg
Acting on a tip-off, three teams led by Lt. Col. MA Yusuf, captain of RAB-7, conducted drives in the deep sea from Thursday noon to Saturday noon and arrested them, added the release.
In preliminary interrogation, the detainees confessed their involvement in robbery.
The detainees were handed over to Patenga Police Station.
