Jessore: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended a young man in Jessore for possessing a substantial quantity of counterfeit currency. The arrested individual, identified as Ibrahim Gazi, was caught with fake notes worth Taka 429,600.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest operation took place on Thursday afternoon in the Monihar area of Jessore city. RAB-6 Jessore Camp confirmed the action through a press release issued late Thursday night. Additional Police Superintendent Rezaul Haque, the Company Commander of RAB-6 Jessore Camp, stated that a RAB team initiated the operation after receiving confidential information.
The intelligence suggested that several people planned to sell counterfeit notes at a tea stall next to the Monihar cinema hall on Thursday afternoon. RAB subsequently raided the location and arrested Ibrahim Gazi. At the time of his initial arrest, Taka 90,000 in counterfeit notes were recovered from his possession. The fake currency included notes in denominations of Taka 500, 200, 100, and 50.
During preliminary questioning, Ibrahim confessed to manufacturing the counterfeit money himself at his residence. He admitted to using a computer and a printer to create the fake notes before distributing them in various locations. Following this confession, the RAB team conducted a raid on Ibrahim’s house in Satkhira, yielding an additional Taka 3,39,600 in fake currency. The authorities also seized the equipment used to produce the counterfeit money, including a computer, monitor, and printer, from the residence.
Sources also mentioned that counterfeit currency manufacturing equipment, including a computer and printer, were recovered from his room during the Monihar operation. Ibrahim Gazi, the son of Kashem Ali Gazi, hails from Ganeshpur village, located in the Patkelghata Upazila of Satkhira district.
RAB Commander Rezaul Haque confirmed that a case has been filed in connection with the crime, and the suspect, Ibrahim Gazi, has been handed over to the Jessore Kotwali Police Station.
