Rangpur: BNP joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel has stated that questions raised by a group of people about the BNP's electoral symbol are unreasonable.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sohel emphasized that the application and acceptance of symbols by the Election Commission are matters beyond dispute. He asserted that the BNP's symbol has been historically significant in elections, and opposition to it is not being well-received by the public.
Sohel addressed these concerns while speaking to reporters ahead of a condolence meeting and dua mehfil for Rangpur district BNP member-secretary Anisur Rahman Laku at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium. Anisur Rahman Laku had passed away following a massive cardiac arrest at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital after returning from Dhaka last Wednesday.
In discussing the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Sohel mentioned that Rahman had recently engaged in open discussions about his return to the country and participation in upcoming elections. Sohel expressed confidence that Rahman would return in due time to contest the next Jatiya Sangsad election.
Addressing the party nomination process, Sohel highlighted the popularity of BNP, noting that there are multiple candidates vying for nominations in almost all constituencies. He assured that the party would nominate candidates who are capable of addressing the needs of the people and deemed worthy by the party.
The condolence meeting and prayer session for Anisur Rahman Laku were organized by the Rangpur district BNP and chaired by its convener, Md Saiful Islam. The event saw participation from key BNP figures, including BNP standing committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain as the chief guest, and several central executive committee members and regional leaders who spoke as special guests. Leaders from all eight upazilas of Rangpur also participated in the program.
