Kangar:The public is cautioned to remain vigilant against social media accounts impersonating government agencies and falsely offering registration for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) or other government aid programs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the presence of accounts on platforms like TikTok that misuse the government coat of arms and employ misleading graphics to suggest that registration for aid is managed by government agencies.

Fahmi emphasized the importance of verifying information found on social media through mainstream media or official websites. He advised that applications or registrations for government services should only be carried out through the official channels of the respective agencies, not through unverified social media links.

Additionally, Fahmi mentioned the utility of artificial intelligence (AI) features on some platforms to help users initially verify suspicious information. He stressed the need for users to exercise caution before sharing content on social media, as there is a significant amount of scam-related and false information being circulated.

He revealed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has already requested the removal of nearly 500,000 content items from social media platforms, with 85 to 90 percent related to scams and online gambling.

Commenting on the MADANI Kita Programme (PMK), Fahmi described it as an initiative by the MADANI Government to connect with the populace, address local needs, and enhance access to government services. The program includes activities such as Rahmah Sales, government exhibitions, service counters, and health and dental screenings, among others.

During the event, Fahmi distributed Rahmah baskets containing food and basic necessities to 100 recipients in the Kangar parliamentary constituency to help alleviate their burdens. Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Information Department director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad were also in attendance.
