Dhaka: The government is set to establish a Public Administration Reform Commission soon, as part of its commitment to reform the public service, Prime Minister's Political Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan stated on Monday. Addressing journalists at an event marking the government's 180 days in office, held at the International Conference Centre 'Shapla' in the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, Nazrul acknowledged the delay but assured that the commission would be formed shortly.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Nazrul emphasized the necessity for proper institutional support for the proposed commission and highlighted the government's efforts to eliminate administrative obstacles before initiating the reform process. The Prime Minister's adviser on Public Administration, Ismail Zabihullah, reiterated the government's dedication to its election pledge and confirmed that preparatory measures are underway.
Zabihullah noted that the government is identifying and removing officials linked to the previous Awami League administration to facilitate a cleansing operation. He assured that the reform measures would be implemented without causing harm to the nation or its citizens. Additionally, Zabihullah mentioned the government's review of a prior report on public administration reform and confirmed that the formal constitution of the commission is imminent.
In parallel with these efforts, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon announced progress in forming a Media Commission. Swapon reported that media stakeholders, having met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, expressed appreciation for the government's non-interference in media operations. The minister outlined plans to institutionalize the current media arrangement through the proposed commission, aligning government commitments with stakeholders' interests.
Swapon further explained that stakeholder consultations are nearing completion, and a working group will be formed to draft a national action plan for submission to the Cabinet. The event also featured a presentation by PMO spokesperson Mahadi Amin, detailing the government's achievements over the past 180 days. The programme was moderated by Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly and attended by various government officials and advisers.
