Paba: Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, today said proper preservation and fair trade of sacrificial animal hides during Eid-ul-Azha can play an important role in protecting the interests of orphans, the poor, and underprivileged people. He made the remarks while addressing the monthly law-and-order committee meeting at the Paba Upazila Parishad conference room as chief guest.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the lawmaker highlighted that the leather industry is the country’s second-largest foreign-exchange earning sector after garments, with a major portion of hides collected during Eid-ul-Azha. He urged all concerned to ensure that hides are properly preserved with salt and that no hide goes to waste.

Referring to cattle markets, MP Milon emphasized the necessity of securing fair prices for livestock sellers, advocating for a broker-free and disciplined market environment. Chairing the meeting, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ibnul Abedin stated that the administration has implemented necessary measures to maintain order at cattle markets and raise awareness about proper hide preservation ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting also saw contributions from Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Agriculture Officer M.A. Mannan, former Horgrom Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kalam Azad, and local BNP leaders.
