Khulna: Prof Dr. Md. Maksud Helali, a retired professor from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and a freedom fighter, formally took charge as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) this evening. He assumed office at 6:30pm at KUET's administrative building, confirmed Deputy Registrar Abdur Rahman. Dr. Helali is expected to begin regular duties from tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, his appointment was approved by the President and Chancellor, and it was announced on July 24 through a notification from the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education under Section 10(1) of the KUET Act, 2003.
KUET had experienced administrative paralysis for five months following a clash in February 2025 over demands to ban student politics on the campus. The clash resulted in over 100 injuries and led to the dismissal of the then Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor on April 26.
