Prof Anwarul, Dr Rafiqul Elected to Lead Netrokona BNP

Netrokona: Professor Dr. Md Anwarul Haque and Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali have been elected as the President and General Secretary, respectively, of the Netrokona district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). This election took place during the party's long-awaited triennial conference, held after an 11-year hiatus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the festive conference was an all-day event held on Saturday at the Moktarpara ground in the district town. The conference included an inaugural session followed by a council session where voting was conducted to elect the new leadership.

Five candidates were in the running for the top two posts of President and General Secretary. The electoral process engaged 1,515 councillors from 15 organizational units, which included 10 upazilas and 5 pourashavas. Each organizational unit was represented by a 101-member committee.

In the evening, Chief Election Commissioner Advocate M A Auwal Selim handed over the election results to BNP Standing Committee Member Salah Uddin, who officially announced the outcomes. Professor Dr. Md Anwarul Haque, who contested with the Umbrella symbol, won the presidency with 1,275 votes. His opponent, Advocate Mahfuzul Haque, running with the Chair symbol, received 211 votes.

For the position of General Secretary, Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali emerged victorious with 746 votes, contesting with the Fish symbol. His nearest competitor, Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony, who ran with the Bullock Cart symbol, garnered 721 votes, while S M Moniruzzaman Dudu, competing with the Football symbol, secured 18 votes.
