Dhaka: The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a probe by forming a three-member committee to investigate serious allegations involving one of its office assistants. The allegations state that the staff member was taken to a police station, physically assaulted, and threatened with being shot.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the investigation follows a complaint filed by Md Sarowar Jahan, an office assistant working in the office of the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. A notification issued on Sunday, signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Abdullah Al Jabed, revealed that Sarowar submitted a written complaint detailing the incident that reportedly occurred on May 4.
In his complaint, Sarowar claimed that Police Sergeant Md Rezaul Haque unjustly confiscated his official identity card, important documents, and personal mobile phone. He further alleged that he was forcibly taken to the Shahbagh Police Box and subsequently to Shahbagh Police Station, where he was subjected to physical torture and threatened with a pistol.
The Ministry’s investigation committee has been tasked with examining the incident thoroughly and recommending legal action against those found responsible for the misconduct. The committee is led by Md Jasim Uddin, who serves as the convener, with Tawsif Ahmed acting as the member secretary and Farhana Mridha as a member. The committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations within 10 working days.
