Dhaka: Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, on Tuesday established a five-member parliamentary committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the procurement processes of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) following media reports.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the decision came in response to a report titled ‘Massive plundering (Horiloot) in procurements of parliament,’ which was published in a Bengali daily and several online portals on April 19. The report drew attention from the highest authority of Parliament, prompting the Speaker to take action by forming the probe committee to thoroughly examine the allegations.

The committee is led by Whip and Member of Parliament ABM Ashraf Uddin (Nizan) from Laxmipur-4, serving as the convener. The other members include ruling party MPs Lutfullahel Mazed from Mymensingh-8, Humam Quader Chowdhury from Chattogram-7, Jamaat MP Md. Saiful Alam from Dhaka-12, and NCP lawmaker Md. Abul Hasnat, widely known as Hasnat Abdullah, from Cumilla-4. The committee has been tasked with submitting its investigation report within seven days.
