Dhaka: The Department of Prisons has declared September 2025 as the month for an anti-drug campaign to raise awareness about drug abuse. This initiative is part of the government's 'zero tolerance' policy against drug abuse, aiming to educate and involve the public in combating this issue.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press release highlighted the increasing rate of drug addiction in Bangladesh, which extends to the country's prisons. In response, the Prisons Department is undertaking special activities in collaboration with district administrations and the Department of Narcotics Control to curb drug abuse.
Measures include conducting special searches on visitors, prisoners, and prison staff. Regular programs are also being held to boost anti-drug awareness. Furthermore, the department has initiated dope tests for suspected prisoners and employees to identify potential addicts and place them under stricter surveillance and administrative control.
The prison authorities are committed to rehabilitating criminals and reintegrating them into society, reinforcing their ongoing efforts to address drug-related challenges within the prison system.
