Dhaka: A prisoner accused of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War has died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital. The deceased, Abdur Mannan Howlader, 86, from Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpu, passed away at around 1:45 am on Friday while receiving treatment at the hospital’s medicine ward.
According to United News of Bangladesh, prison guard Sujon reported that Mannan fell ill at Keraniganj Central Jail on Thursday night. Following instructions from prison authorities, he was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the police camp at the hospital, mentioned that the body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy. An inquest report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate. He further stated that the body will be handed over to the family after the completion of legal formalities.
