Khulna: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the main accused in the sensational Rajib murder case in the district. The arrestee was identified as Shipon Sheikh, 32.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, RAB-6 and RAB-10 jointly conducted an operation around 11:30 pm on Thursday and arrested Shipon from the Joyair Mor area under Kotwali Model Police Station in Faridpur district, as per a RAB press release.

The case documents reveal that Shipon and other accused were once close associates of Rajib. However, Rajib later distanced himself from them due to their alleged involvement in criminal activities, causing resentment among the accused.

On January 3, around 2:45 am, Rajib received a phone call on his mobile phone. He informed his wife, Farhana, that Shipon and Akhtar were calling him and then left the house. Rajib had been missing since then.

Subsequently, on January 9, Khulna River Police recovered Rajib’s body from near 6 No. Paltan Ghat beside the Bhairab River and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Following the incident, Yasin Molla, a cousin of the victim, filed a murder case with Khalishpur Police Station in the Khulna Metropolitan area.

The arrested accused was handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station in Faridpur district for further legal action, the release added.
