Khulna:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Khulna and Bagerhat on Thursday to participate in a series of programmes, including the inauguration of the second season of the 'Notun Kuri Sports' competition.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister will depart from Dhaka by helicopter at 9 am, arriving first in Mongla, Bagerhat. From there, he will travel by road to Khulna. His visit includes two official engagements in Mongla and one in Khulna, as well as a visit to the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) in Bagerhat district.

After completing his events in Mongla, the Prime Minister will proceed to Khulna to inaugurate the 'Notun Kuri Sports' at the Khulna District Stadium. This event, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, aims to discover sporting talents from the grassroots level across the nation.

The Prime Minister's visit has sparked enthusiasm among BNP leaders, activists, supporters, and local residents. In preparation, the city has been cleaned and decorated, with the district stadium and nearby roads adorned with colorful banners and festoons promoting the sports competition.

Additionally, murals depicting Khulna's history and heritage have been painted along the route from Shibbari intersection to the main entrance of the railway station. These artworks include images related to the July uprising, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, the Sundarbans, and the Royal Bengal Tiger.

In contrast to previous visits by heads of government, the city has not been filled with welcome arches or banners and festoons from political leaders and activists. Instead, arches, billboards, and political banners welcoming the Prime Minister have been removed. Security measures have also been heightened throughout Khulna city in anticipation of the visit.

Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Monju stated that the city has been thoroughly cleaned and beautified to welcome the Prime Minister, expressing eagerness to extend a warm reception.
