New York:Dubai: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Dubai today, making a stop on his way back to Dhaka after concluding a five-day visit to New York, where he attended the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the assembly, he addressed issues such as global peace, climate change, and the Rohingya crisis.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an Emirates flight carrying the prime minister, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and their entourage landed at Dubai International Airport at 8:23 pm local time. The prime minister is scheduled to depart for Dhaka on Emirates flight EK582 at 2:00 am on September 27, arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40 am.
During his time in New York, Prime Minister Rahman delivered his first address at the General Debate of the UNGA and participated in a series of bilateral meetings and high-level engagements. His agenda included discussions on trade, investment, energy security, and regional cooperation, with a focus on Bangladesh's national interests and international peace.
The prime minister met with leaders from 11 countries and participated in eight UNGA-related engagements, alongside meetings with international organizations. He emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and advocated for a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh.
The Rohingya crisis was a key topic during his visit, with Prime Minister Rahman urging for safe repatriation and stronger international cooperation. He met with UN officials, including Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, who expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's role in sheltering the Rohingyas and contributing to UN peacekeeping operations.
Bilateral discussions included meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other leaders, focusing on expanding trade and economic cooperation. The prime minister also addressed climate change, calling for urgent global actions, and outlined plans for improving healthcare in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Rahman's visit concluded with engagements aimed at strengthening Bangladesh's economic development and international partnerships, including meetings with investors and international organizations to discuss investment opportunities and humanitarian challenges.
