Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today affirmed the government's steadfast commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of Freedom Fighters (FFs), victims of enforced disappearances, and those affected by various democratic movements, including the martyrs of the July uprising. In a heartfelt ceremony at his Tejgaon office, Rahman emphasized the ongoing efforts to address the needs of these groups, despite the challenges faced.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister handed over job appointment letters to 10 individuals representing families impacted by enforced disappearances and killings, as well as families of July martyrs. In total, 74 people received appointment letters, symbolizing the government's dedication to supporting those who have suffered due to political unrest and oppression.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Rahman expressed the emotional weight of the event, highlighting the absence of many individuals who had sacrificed their lives for the country's freedom from dictatorship. "Today's programme is extremely painful for us. We are remembering people who should have been among us today, but sadly they are not," he stated, urging attendees to pray for the well-being of those who remain missing.
He reiterated the government's commitment to supporting affected families, acknowledging that while the losses endured cannot be fully compensated, the government will continue to stand by them. "Despite our limited resources, we will make our utmost efforts to stand by the families affected by enforced disappearances and killings and the families of those injured or killed in the July uprising," Rahman said.
The Prime Minister further acknowledged the sacrifices made by many who are no longer alive, emphasizing that their contributions are a source of inspiration and strength for the government. He assured those present that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and that the government will strive to fulfill the aspirations for which they risked their lives.
Throughout the event, family members of those affected shared their experiences with Prime Minister Rahman. The programme was conducted by Atikur Rahman Ruman, convener of 'Amra BNP Paribar', and attended by various government officials and 'Amra BNP Paribar' members.
