Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital a seven-day deadline to improve its cleanliness and management. He also urged students and youths to actively participate in dengue prevention by maintaining cleanliness in their homes, schools, and surrounding areas.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister made these remarks during a surprise visit to Rajuk Uttara Model College in the capital after inspecting the hospital to assess its healthcare services and cleanliness. During his hospital visit, he interacted with patients and inspected various departments, including the intensive care unit and operation theatres, expressing dissatisfaction with the overall management.

Following the hospital tour, the Prime Minister addressed teachers, students, and members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps and Scouts at Rajuk Uttara Model College. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness in preventing dengue, a disease that typically sees a rise in infections during this period through November. He called on the youth to take responsibility for their surroundings, highlighting that public participation is crucial due to the limited capacity of city corporation cleaners in a city like Dhaka, which has a population exceeding two crores.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need to prevent indiscriminate littering and encouraged students to raise awareness about proper waste disposal. He mentioned that although dustbins had been installed throughout the city, many were stolen, as were saplings planted by city corporations. He urged greater public responsibility to prevent such occurrences.

Additionally, he advised students to contribute to environmental protection by planting a tree on special occasions like birthdays. He reminisced about Dhaka's past, when it had more greenery, and noted that the increase in multi-storied buildings has led to higher temperatures. He encouraged the youth to play an active role in dengue prevention, cleanliness, and greening the environment, underlining the importance of collective efforts for a clean and livable city.
