Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized the critical role of children's development in strengthening Bangladesh's future during a program marking Children's Rights Day, 2026, and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Rahman likened children to the strong pillars of a house, stating that if every child is given the opportunity to develop their abilities, Bangladesh's foundation will become stronger in the competitive world. He highlighted the importance of creating an environment where children can grow through education, sports, cultural activities, and by fostering kindness towards nature and living beings.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for children to develop not only through formal education but also through sports, Quran recitation, music, and other cultural activities. He urged children to cultivate their talents and become good human beings.

Rahman also addressed environmental concerns, stating that pollution harms children and future generations. He encouraged children to be aware of their surroundings, reminding adults to dispose of waste properly and to protect the environment.

The government is working to expand access to arts, culture, and sports facilities in schools to help children develop their talents. Rahman noted that a recent primary school football competition involved 2.2 million children and expressed hope that future sports stars will emerge from such initiatives.

He announced plans to introduce opportunities for children to learn a third language alongside Bangla and English, aiming to better equip them for higher education and employment abroad. However, he emphasized that academic achievement alone is not enough; children must also develop a sense of humanity.

Recalling his own childhood experiences at Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Rahman shared personal memories and encouraged children to cherish such opportunities. The event included cultural performances by children and interactions with the Prime Minister through videoconference.

Rahman concluded the visit by inaugurating a solar panel system and a substation at the Children's Museum building, further demonstrating the government's commitment to enhancing children's facilities.
