Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the government is implementing clear policies and action plans to ensure education, safety, dignity, and a brighter future for girls.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to preventing girls' dreams from being hindered by economic constraints, insecurity, or discrimination. This statement was made in a message issued on the occasion of National Girl Child Day-2026, which will be observed tomorrow.

This year's theme for National Girl Child Day is "No More Child Marriage, Girls Will Conquer the World." The Prime Minister stated that every girl should have equal opportunities to realize her full potential, equipped with education, skills, and self-confidence. It is the state's responsibility to ensure a safe environment where every girl can grow and pursue her aspirations freely.

Prime Minister Rahman acknowledged former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's contribution to girls' education, noting her introduction of free education for girls up to Class XII. Building on this initiative, the current government has expanded free education opportunities for women up to the postgraduate level.

He highlighted the link between women's political and economic empowerment and providing a safe and supportive environment for girl children. As part of efforts to strengthen women's economic empowerment, the government is issuing 'Family Cards' in the names of female heads of households and has taken initiatives to improve education, healthcare, nutrition, and social protection for girls and women.

The government aims to create an environment where every girl can move freely, learn, speak, and express her views without fear. The Prime Minister called on families, society, educational institutions, and the state to collaborate in protecting girls' safety, dignity, and rights in both physical and digital spaces.

Emphasizing the importance of education, rights, and equal opportunities for girls, the Prime Minister stated that these are essential for building a healthy, educated, and developed society. He expressed the desire for the birth of a girl child to be considered a blessing for the family and affirmed that the government is working to ensure a girl's education is never interrupted.

Finally, the Prime Minister called for stronger collective efforts to prevent child marriage and discrimination and to ensure a safe, equal, and promising future for every girl. He also extended greetings and congratulations to all girl children, their guardians, and the people of the country on National Girl Child Day.
