Khulna:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today inaugurated the second edition of "Notun Kuri Sports," a talent hunt program designed to nurture the physical and mental development of children and adolescents and to build talented athletes from the grassroots.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister launched the program with the theme "Sports as a profession, assurance for the family" by releasing balloons and pigeons at Khulna District Stadium at 345 pm.
During the event, the Prime Minister hoisted the national flag and interacted with young players participating in the competition's 10 categories. As he arrived at the stadium, students and athletes in the gallery waved at him, and he reciprocated. The presence of the Prime Minister brought high spirits among the children and adolescents.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque was also present at the ceremony. The initiative aims to identify sporting talent among children and adolescents across the country, with the government focusing on selecting talented players from the grassroots and creating opportunities for their development.
The Department of Sports is implementing the program under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in alignment with a pledge in the BNP's election manifesto. This initiative follows the popular talent hunt program "Notun Kuri" of the 1980s, aiming to discover new sporting talent.
