Abu Dhabi:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that the government is working to bring mental health services to people's doorsteps by expanding technology-based counseling services and introducing effective referral systems.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister's message was issued on the eve of World Mental Health Day 2026, emphasizing the government's aim to create a healthcare system that values mental peace, social security, and improved living standards alongside physical well-being.

The Prime Minister highlighted that mental health is a growing public health challenge worldwide, affecting many in Bangladesh who lack proper treatment and support due to stigma, awareness issues, and limited access to services. As part of the government's initiatives, plans are underway to establish integrated referral systems, expand tele-counseling services to marginalized communities, and train mental health professionals at various healthcare levels.

The government is also focusing on mental health for pregnant women, children, and adolescents, including school-based services. Prime Minister Rahman stressed that mental health should not be neglected and is a crucial part of the government's health policy.

Reflecting on this year's theme, "Lived experiences heard real voices, real change," he emphasized the importance of acknowledging personal experiences in mental healthcare. He called for collective efforts to eliminate fear and discrimination associated with mental illness and urged mental health professionals to support patients with empathy and sincerity.

Prime Minister Rahman expressed hope for a collaborative effort among the government, healthcare professionals, and society to create a supportive environment where discussions on mental health are normalized and accessible. He wished good health and well-being for all on World Mental Health Day 2026.
