Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has approved a grant of Tk 3 crore for this year's Christmas celebration, surpassing the amount originally requested by the Christian Religious Welfare Trust. The decision was made following a proposal from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which had initially sought Tk 2 crore for the festivities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister's decision to allocate the additional Tk 1 crore was confirmed by his Deputy Press Secretary, Hasan Shiplu. The grant is to be distributed from the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund through the Ministry of Religious Affairs in preparation for Christmas, which will be observed on December 25.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs, in a summary sent to the Prime Minister, outlined that the Christian Religious Welfare Trust has planned various religious and social welfare activities nationwide to mark the occasion. Initially, the ministry had proposed a Tk 2 crore allocation from the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund for the Christmas 2026 celebrations, but the Prime Minister approved Tk 3 crore instead.
