Narsingdi: Police have apprehended the prime accused in the murder case of a nine-year-old child, Ramim, in the Palash upazila of Narsingdi. The child allegedly died after air was forcibly pumped into his rectum.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made early Wednesday morning when Sabuj Mia, 34, was taken into custody from the Arshinagar area under Narsingdi Sadar upazila. Sabuj Mia, the son of Lokman Hossain from Charkarardi village in Gajaria Union, had been evading capture since the incident. Police utilized information technology to locate and arrest him as he attempted a secretive escape to another location.

The tragic event unfolded on May 6, when Sabuj, along with Faisal (25), Shishir (28), and Babu (25), allegedly forced Ramim into a rickshaw garage at Gajaria Bazar in Palash. There, they reportedly used an air machine to pump air into the child’s rectum and mouth. Following this horrific act, Ramim became critically ill and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

In response to the incident, Ramim’s father, Ripon Mia, filed a murder case at the Palash Police Station, naming the four individuals as suspects. Since the child’s death, all of the accused had been in hiding.

The Officer-in-Charge of Palash Police Station confirmed that the arrested individual was presented in court on Wednesday afternoon, with a request for a seven-day police remand. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
