Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain emphasized the importance of preventive measures for building a healthy nation, rather than relying solely on medication. Speaking as the chief guest at a research outcome program at the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) in Mohakhali, the minister underscored the necessity of disease prevention from birth.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted the need to focus on both curing and preventing diseases from an early age to ensure a healthier population. He addressed the audience, which included NIPSOM director Professor Dr. Nasrin Sultana, Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Health Affairs Dr. SM Ziauddin Haider, and other prominent figures from the health sector.
The health minister stressed that compassionate behavior from doctors could significantly impact patient recovery. He noted that doctors should not only prescribe medicine but also offer positive support to help patients heal. Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain expressed concern over the increasing number of cancer and kidney patients in the country, attributing their struggles to immense suffering.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to providing healthcare services to all citizens, highlighting the appointment of 100,000 health workers and the development of primary health units at the union and ward levels. He also mentioned plans to upgrade upazila health complexes to 100-bed facilities and ensure integrated mother and newborn healthcare services.
Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain addressed recent child deaths from measles, attributing them to child malnutrition. He emphasized the importance of addressing these issues to prevent future fatalities.
Dr. SM Ziauddin Haider, speaking at the function, praised NIPSOM's role in producing skilled researchers in the health sector, reinforcing the institute's pivotal contribution to public health advancements.
