President of UNFCC SBSTA calls on Prime Minister Dahal

Kathmandu: President of UNFCCC SBSTA, Harry Vreuls, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' at Singh Darbar today. During the meeting, matters relating to the impact of climate change and Nepal's leading role on the matter were discussed. On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized on the need to move ahead in a planned and institutional manner to reduce the impact of climate change, while requesting for more support for Nepal including of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). During the meeting, President Vreuls lauded the important role played by Nepal in the recent UN Climate Change Conference, as well for its leading role on matters concerning the Himalayas and mountain countries Similarly, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Bhutan, Lyonpo Yonten Phuntsho paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dahal and discussed various matters relating to the impact of clima te change and various issues of bilateral interest. Also today, Secretary General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multilateral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Indra Mani Pandey called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda'. In the meeting held at Singh Darbar, various issues of cooperation between BIMSTEC member countries including those concerning climate change were discussed. On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal said that BIMSTEC is promoting regional economic cooperation and emphasized that the cooperation and collaboration between the member countries should be made more effective in the days ahead. Discussion should also be held on impact of climate change in the region, he added. In reply, Secretary General Pandey said that Nepal is playing an important role as a BIMSTEC member country and expressed confidence that Nepal's role will be more effective in the future.
