Dhaka: Former secretary Md Sarwar Alam has rejoined as the Press Secretary to President Mohammed Shahabuddin on a contractual basis for one year. The reappointment was effective as of Wednesday, following a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Sarwar Alam, an officer from the BCS Information ’84 Batch, has a rich history of serving in various capacities within the government. He previously held the position of deputy press secretary to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and has also served as the senior information officer to the former home minister, Abdul Matin Chowdhury. His extensive career in public service saw him on post-retirement leave in 2022 while he was serving as Director (Joint Secretary) at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
In 1994, Sarwar Alam was posted to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, where he served as second and first secretary (Press). His academic background is notable, as he is an alumnus of the prestigious Notre Dame College and Motijheel Ideal High School. He obtained both his M.S.C and B.S.C (Honors) in Geography and Environment from the University of Dhaka in 1983 and 1982, respectively, achieving First-Class distinctions in both examinations.
