Dhaka: President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today asked the Bangladesh Coast Guard to take more effective measures to maintain law and order and security in coastal areas and prevent drug trafficking, smuggling, and human trafficking. The President made the call when Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General (DG) Rear Admiral Md. Moinul Hassan paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam disclosed details of the meeting. During the session, the President emphasized the need for the Coast Guard to implement strategies to conserve fisheries and natural resources, protect the environment, and prevent water pollution. He underlined the government's commitment to transforming the Coast Guard into a modern and efficient force to safeguard the nation's extensive coastal regions and maritime boundaries. Efforts are underway to modernize the force and ensure comprehensive training for its members.
The President also urged the Coast Guard to maintain vigilance to thwart illegal fishing activities within the country's maritime boundaries. The Coast Guard DG informed the President about the force's activities, including progress in acquiring new patrol boats and modern rescue helicopters, as well as plans to establish an aviation wing to enhance capabilities. He sought the President's support in executing his responsibilities.
The President assured the Coast Guard DG of his unwavering support for the force's development. Secretaries of the President's office and senior officials were present during the meeting.
