Dhaka: President Mohammed Shahabuddin today administered the oath to the newly elected speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, of Bhola-3 Constituency.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the newly elected Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, a six-term lawmaker, had previously served as the Liberation War Affairs Minister, a position he resigned from before assuming his new role. The oath-taking ceremony, marking the beginning of a new parliamentary session, was held at the President’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around noon.
Following the Speaker’s oath, President Shahabuddin also administered the oath to Barrister Kaiser Kamal, a lawmaker from the Netrokona-1 constituency (Kalamkanda-Durgapur), as the Deputy Speaker of the 13th parliament. Kamal had previously served as the state minister for the Ministry of Land and was elected as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the 13th national parliamentary election.
The event was attended by the Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with senior cabinet colleagues and relevant secretaries. After the ceremony, both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker signed their respective oaths of office and secrecy.
