Preparedness Needed Before Earthquake Strikes: Dulu

Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has announced that Bangladesh faces a high risk of earthquakes, emphasizing the necessity of preparedness to ensure efficient rescue operations and support for affected individuals. He made these comments during the inauguration of a two-day training program on 'Formation of Volunteers for Earthquake Disaster Management' held at the Department of Disaster Management in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Dulu highlighted that the ministry is working on preparing 100,000 volunteers as directed by the Prime Minister to effectively manage potential disasters. He reiterated that Bangladesh is prone to various disasters and the government has initiated multiple measures to alleviate the impact of these events.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain, speaking as a special guest, underscored the importance of training, noting that it enhances skills, maturity, and competence. He expressed optimism that the trained volunteers would be ready to assist in humanitarian efforts whenever necessary.

The event also saw the presence of Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the ministry, as a special guest, while Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management, chaired the session.
