Netrakona: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam reaffirmed today that the national elections are set for February, highlighting that confusion being spread about the election timeline is the work of “cohorts of the fallen autocratic government”.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam addressed journalists at the Netrakona Circuit House, emphasizing there should be no uncertainty about the elections. “It must be held in the first half of February,” he stated, pointing out those attempting to disrupt the elections were once allied with the previous autocratic regime. He further mentioned that some of these individuals may have benefited from plots in Purbachal or received monetary advantages during that time.
In response to a query about reforms and rural journalism, Alam lauded journalists for their tireless efforts, stating, “Journalists work hard day and night to collect and prepare news, and that’s what keeps television channels running”. He expressed concern about the lack of recognition and compensation for rural journalists, noting that while media outlets profit from their content, these journalists are often left without proper acknowledgment or pay.
Alam also engaged with students from ITS Netrakona on the Circuit House premises. The students presented him with a memorandum requesting various reforms, which he promised to forward to the relevant authorities.
In a gesture of respect, Shafiqul Alam paid homage to the martyrs of the 2024 July Uprising by placing a wreath at the July Memorial at Moktarpara. The event was attended by Netrakona Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman and Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud.
