Polls Roadmap to Be Announced Next Week: EC Secretary

Dhaka: Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed today announced that the EC is set to reveal the election roadmap next week for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections. “We have discussed the election roadmap and we hope to give you our election roadmap next week which will give you a better idea about our preparations for the upcoming national polls,” Ahmed stated while addressing journalists at the Agargaon Election Commission Building.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ahmed also mentioned that discussions with media personnel are scheduled for next week. Addressing questions on the registration of observer organizations, he noted, “We have so far received 318 applications for registration as observer organizations. We are reviewing those.”



Regarding the registration of political parties, the EC secretary explained that the registration issues of 22 political parties will initially be sent to the field level for further information. “Apart from these, there are some other issues that we are regularly reviewing or discussing. I will inform you about this from time to time,” Ahmed added.



He emphasized the significance of exercising expatriate voters’ rights and shared that preliminary discussions on this matter had taken place. “We discussed what the method, where and how long will it be covered?,” he elaborated.



Ahmed assured that the EC will maintain regular communication with the media, stating, “We will discuss with you (the media) at least for one or two days every week. Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (retd.) and I will brief the media.”



In response to inquiries about the contents of the election roadmap, Ahmed confirmed, “We will tell you what will be in the roadmap. Dialogues with the members of the civil society and media alongside all information regarding amendments to the laws will be given in the roadmap.”
