Dhaka: BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today emphasized the necessity for politicians to become technology-dependent to effectively lead nation building in the modern era. Speaking at a discussion titled ‘Role of Engineers in Building a Democratic Developed Bangladesh’ held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Ramna, Salahuddin highlighted the indispensable role engineers play in constructing a developed nation. The event was organized by the Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, underscored the importance of placing skilled and appropriate manpower in every sector. He articulated the vision of BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who advocated for introducing production-oriented politics and education in the country. Salahuddin stated, “We dream to implement,” pointing out the necessity of bringing in talented and skilled individuals, keeping politicians updated on technology and engineering, and aligning their work with public needs.
Salahuddin further urged for the active involvement of the youth in politics and stressed that political thinking must evolve with changing times. Criticizing the current government, he accused the fallen fascist Awami League of inflating the time and costs of mega projects for corrupt purposes, saying, “We were not a poor nation, they made us one.”
Engineer A N H Akhtar Hossain, speaking as a special guest, highlighted the oppression engineers have faced for the past 17 years and called for more engineers to be elected to Parliament to play a greater role in national development. The discussion was chaired by AEB Convener Engineer Shahreen Islam Tuhin and moderated by Convener Committee members Engineer K M Asaduzzaman Chunnu and Engineer Shafiul Azam Fahim.
