Dhaka: BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today highlighted the collective agreement among political parties in Bangladesh on the need to re-establish democracy and create a more humane society. He emphasized that despite differing political ideologies, there is a shared commitment toward these goals.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these remarks while virtually addressing a pre-Iftar Mahfil event, organized by the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) at the Gulshan Shooting Club. He urged political parties to focus on addressing the problems faced by the people and to propose necessary reforms in various sectors.
Rahman stressed the importance of boosting agricultural production as a means to keep the prices of goods affordable. He cited the example of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who increased agricultural output through canal digging, allowing for multiple cropping by ensuring timely water supply.
He also underscored the need for ensuring minimum medical care for the country's 200 million people, questioning why political parties are not prioritizing this issue as a reform agenda. Additionally, he raised concerns about building a proper education system to secure a prosperous future for the nation.
Highlighting environmental challenges, Rahman pointed out the severe threat posed by pollution in Bangladesh, calling for reform proposals to address this issue. He noted that pollution, including noise and smoke, is causing widespread health problems, and urged political parties to present plans to combat environmental degradation.
The event also featured speeches from NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj, BNP's Mahadi Amin, AB Party's Mujibur Rahman Manju, and Nagorik Oikya's Shahidullah Kaiser.
