Dhaka: Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced today that political parties have expressed their support for the interim government's reform initiatives. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus held discussions with 20 political party leaders for the second consecutive day.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Press Secretary briefed reporters outside the State Guest House Jamuna after these meetings. He stated that the Chief Adviser engaged with political parties on several issues, including elections and the progress of reforms. Alam highlighted that Prof Yunus assured political leaders that elections will occur between December and June next year, with a firm commitment to hold them by June 30.
In the meetings, Prof Yunus emphasized the current challenging situation, describing it as a "war-like" scenario. He noted that following the ban on the Awami League's activities, there have been attempts to destabilize the government. "We have to get out of this situation," he asserted to the political leaders.
On the subject of elections, Prof Yunus expressed his determination, stating, "I will feel guilty if I cannot hold a fair election." The briefing was also attended by Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir.
