Chattogram: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Assistant Organising Secretary Mir Helal today stated that the political trajectory of the country was significantly altered by the soldier-people revolution on November 7, 1975. “The country and the nation got new direction through the revolution,” he remarked while paying homage to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at his altar in Biplob Udyan at Sholoshohor in Chattogram city, commemorating the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mir Helal emphasized that people from all walks of life took to the streets that day to express their full voluntary support for the revolution. He highlighted that “Ziaur Rahman was freed from captivity through the sepoy-people revolution and an unprecedented instance of solidarity was created after the revolution.”

He further noted that November 7 was acknowledged as a national holiday during the BNP regime, expressing regret that they have not been able to commemorate the day peacefully
during the past decade and a half under what he described as a fascist government. Helal urged the government to officially recognize November 7 as a national holiday, designating it as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Mir Helal asserted that the country’s independence and sovereignty were fortified under the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, marking the beginning of a shift towards multi-party democracy. He called upon everyone to unite in efforts to achieve the country’s economic emancipation, peace, discipline, equity, justice, and humanity.

The event was attended by Chattogram Metropolitan Chhatra Dal Convenor Saiful Alam, Secretary General Shariful Islam Tuhin, Joint Convenors Arifur Rahman Mithu, Shahidul Islam Sumon, Sabbir Ahmed, and MA Hasan Bappa, along with members Al Mamun Saddam and Delwar Hossain Shishir.
