Dhaka: More than 1.5 lakh policemen are to be trained to perform duties to secure the planned national elections in February next year, officials said here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police's deputy inspector general (DIG) Quazi Zia Uddin stated that they are committed to providing all necessary training to ensure a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful national election.
Uddin, stationed at the police headquarters and responsible for the main law enforcement agency's human resources development, expressed optimism about the upcoming polls, hoping they would be a significant event in the country's history. The police headquarters' HR department has formulated nine training modules over the past three months, incorporating suggestions from election experts and lawyers.
The training course, developed under the leadership of the inspector general of police and the additional IGP for HR, is expected to effectively prepare police personnel to handle any law and order situation during the elections. Bangladesh police have 130 smaller and four larger training centers nationwide, where officers will be trained following the course outline.
As part of the training materials, the DIG mentioned the development of two documentaries: a 15-minute audiovisual content and a nine-minute film, along with a booklet. Additionally, 150 master trainers have already been trained under the modules at the police headquarters in Dhaka, with plans to develop 1,292 master trainers at 19 police training centers across the country.
The trainers will subsequently train over 1.5 lakh policemen for election duties. All trainers will receive real-time training through mock situations that might arise during the elections, aiming to ensure comprehensive security. A formal opening ceremony to launch the training program is scheduled for later this week at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
