Khulna: Khulna Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Md Mostafizur Rahman announced today that the police force will carry out their duties impartially, without any influence from political affiliations or particular groups. He emphasized the independence of police operations at a state level, asserting that they are free from any political pressure.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DIG shared these insights during a meeting with journalists at the conference room of the Meherpur Superintendent of Police (SP) office. The discussion encompassed various critical issues including the district's law-and-order situation, drug control, online gambling, harassment of women, police-media relations, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate information to the media.
In response to queries about potential structural reforms within the police to prevent future political misuse, Mostafizur Rahman acknowledged that the matter is under serious consideration. He also addressed drug control, stating that any involvement of police personnel in drug-related activities would not be tolerated.
"Not only drug users, but also drug traders and anyone involved in drugs in any manner will be brought under the law," he emphasized. The DIG assured that strict action would be taken against police personnel found involved in drug activities.
The DIG further highlighted a firm approach against online gambling, urging law enforcement agencies to take active measures to curb the practice. He expressed optimism that eliminating online gambling in Meherpur could set a precedent for eradicating the issue across other districts in the country.
Addressing the issue of harassment of women, the DIG stated that such acts would not be tolerated and those involved would face legal consequences. He called for enhanced information sharing between the police and the media, noting the challenges posed by the spread of misinformation through online platforms.
"If the police provide journalists with rapid and accurate information, it will be possible to prevent the spread of such misinformation to a significant extent," he remarked.
The meeting was presided over by Meherpur SP Ujjal Kumar Ray, with contributions from Additional Superintendent of Police Jamirul Rahman Khan. Various media representatives, including Meherpur District Press Club President Tojammel Azam and Meherpur Press Club President Faruk Hossain, were in attendance.
