Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has issued a stern warning that police personnel found involved in drug trafficking activities will face strict action. He emphasized that no member of the police force will be spared if allegations against them are proven true. This statement was made during an award distribution ceremony held at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the IGP highlighted the challenges posed by drug abuse to the country's youth and future generations. He assured that police are working with utmost sincerity and professionalism to tackle the issue. He mentioned that actions have already been taken against police personnel implicated in narcotics-related activities.
The IGP acknowledged the contributions of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to the development of the Bangladesh Police. He noted that the use of the police as a partisan force over the past 17 years had led to a disconnect with the public, but efforts have been made to restore the force's image and discipline.
He described the Bangladesh Police as a traditional and large force, committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and preventing crime. The IGP congratulated award winners and encouraged all members to work more devotedly for the country's welfare, stressing that the achievements represented responsibility, professional excellence, and leadership.
The IGP expressed hope that the awards would inspire police personnel to continue performing their duties with honesty, sincerity, and dedication.
