Sardah: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today emphasized that Bangladesh Police should function as the people’s most trusted ally rather than a political instrument, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering a professional and impartial police force. He stressed the importance of creating a service-oriented police system free from partisan influence.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Minister addressed the passing-out parade of the 27th BCS (Police) Batch, Phase-I at the Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to reform the police by instilling professionalism and morale, which had been previously undermined by excessive politicisation. A performance-based accountability system has been implemented, rewarding officers for integrity and bravery, while enforcing punitive measures for misconduct.

Salahuddin congratulated the newly commissioned Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), encouraging them to uphold the rule of law impartially. He stressed the equal treatment of all citizens seeking police services, regardless of their societal roles. The minister emphasized discipline, loyalty, and leadership as key elements of an effective police force.

He also highlighted the increasing importance of technological expertise, urging new officers to enhance their skills in cyber security and digital crime investigation. The minister reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption, calling for honesty and professionalism among police personnel.

Expressing confidence in the new officers, Salahuddin stated that the 58 graduates would enrich Bangladesh Police with their acquired knowledge and skills. He urged them to meet public expectations while honoring the spirit of the Liberation War and the sacrifices of the 2024 student-led uprising.

The Home Minister inspected the parade and presented awards to outstanding trainees. Dr Md Nurul Huda Bhuiyan was named Best Probationer and received the Best in Field Activities award. ABM Mamun earned the Best Shooter award, and Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam won the Best Academic Award. The ceremony marked the induction of 58 officers into active service.

Speaking to reporters post-event, the Home Minister assured that the law and order situation remains under control. He noted ongoing investigations into the discovery of explosive-like objects in the capital, which have been safely neutralized by the DMP Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit. Crime and sabotage incidents remain low, with the government maintaining vigilance to ensure public safety.

The minister explained the issuance of a special alert in August due to activities by the banned Awami fascist group, prompting heightened alertness among security forces.
