Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today categorically stated that the police forces are taking a tough stand to halt extortion and anarchy in the country. The IGP made these remarks while addressing the media after visiting the Dhaka Zila Police Lines, Range Reserve Force (RRF), and Traffic and Driving School at Mill Barrack in the old part of the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, when asked about the measures against extortionists and anarchists, IGP Baharul Alam mentioned that actions would be taken following the preparation of a list by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. The DB has been tasked with the responsibility of compiling area-wise lists of individuals accused in various criminal cases and those with bad reputations.
Baharul Alam emphasized that preventive measures would be implemented against these individuals, and legal actions would be pursued against those accused. He also called for cooperation from all concerned parties, including various political factions, highlighting their potential role in enhancing the country's overall law and order.
The IGP acknowledged the challenges faced by the police, noting that it is difficult to resolve all the problems created over the past 15 years within a few months. However, he assured that the police are striving diligently to improve the law and order situation nationwide.
