Narayanganj: Police today arrested 29 leaders and activists of the now disbanded Awami League and its affiliated organizations like Jubo League, outlawed Chhatra League, Awami Swechhasebok League, and Sramik League in a special operation in the district over the past two days.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the river port district's additional police superintendent, Tareq Al Mehedy, stated that the special operation was conducted across Narayanganj in response to the banned party's Dhaka lockdown program.

"We have installed 26 check posts on roads and highways across the district for security reasons," he said. Mehedy further mentioned that police arrested 58 members of the Awami League and its affiliates during the last two days of the operation and recovered some crude bombs and devices.

Police reported that the lockdown program did not disrupt traffic movements at the Narayanganj section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
