Police Arrest Main Suspect and Three Others in Lawyer Nizam Uddin Murder Case

Dhaka: Police have arrested four individuals, including the main suspect, in connection with the murder of prominent lawyer Advocate Nizam Uddin Shanto. The arrests were made within 50 hours of the incident, utilizing information technology to track down the suspects.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabder provided details of the arrest during a press briefing at the Superintendent of Police's office. Advocate Nizam Uddin Shanto was fatally stabbed at the Tetultala intersection in Harikhali area on the night of July 25. The attack occurred while he was returning home on a motorcycle after completing his court work.

Following the filing of a murder case at Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station, a joint team comprising police and detectives initiated an investigation. The subsequent operation led to the arrest of Sheikh Murad, Abu Taher Deep alias Dipu, Md. Hafizur Rahman, and Shipon Sheikh from the PC Dema area of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. Authorities also recovered a modern knife allegedly used in the murder from Sheikh Murad, the principal suspect.

Superintendent of Police Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabder stated that the suspects would be presented in court, and a remand application would be filed. The police aim to extract further information regarding the motive behind the murder and potential accomplices through interrogation during remand.
