Police Arrest 8 Awami League Members in Savar and Dhamrai

Savar: Police arrested eight leaders and activists of the banned Awami League on charges of planning to create violence related to their reported lockdown program in the Savar and Dhamrai areas.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Awami League had declared a nationwide lockdown program for November 13. In response, police apprehended Awami League members and those affiliated with its associate bodies, accusing them of planning to incite violence ahead of the lockdown.



The individuals arrested include Savar upazila Chhatra League vice-president Tanjirul Islam, aged 20, and Chhatra League activist Tariqul Islam Topu, aged 23. Others detained comprise Birulia union 3 no ward Jubo League general secretary Ruhul Amin, 32, Mokhlesur Rahman, who is also the brother of a former upazila chairman, Ashulia Dhansona union Jubo League Information affairs secretary Obaidul Bhuiyan, 32, Pathalia union Chhatra League labour affairs secretary Hridoy, 25, Pathalia union Sramik League vice president Mohammad Ali, 35, and Dhaka district uttar Chhatra League health affairs deputy secretary Parvez Kabir, 23.



Officer in Charge (OC) of Savar Model police station Helal Uddin stated that the leaders and activists were arrested on charges of planning to create anarchy. He further mentioned that cases have been filed against them under the anti-terrorism act, and they have been sent to court with a request for remand.
