Dhaka: Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir today expressed concerns about potential anti-Bangladesh activities being orchestrated from Indian soil. He highlighted that deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina's rumored plan to make a public address from India on the anniversary of her ouster, August 5, 2024, could disrupt the current positive trajectory in bilateral relations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, newly appointed Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met with Adviser Kobir during a courtesy call at the Prime Minister's Office. During their meeting, Kobir emphasized that any attempts by banned organizations to leverage Indian territory for political activities targeting Bangladesh might harm bilateral ties.
Kobir asserted that Bangladesh anticipates India will prevent Sheikh Hasina or any of her party's affiliates from using Indian territory to deliver political speeches or conduct activities that could incite instability within Bangladesh.
The official statement further noted that the adviser and the envoy reviewed multiple aspects of the Bangladesh-India relationship, discussing various issues of mutual interest. High Commissioner Trivedi assured Kobir that the matter would be thoroughly considered, and necessary inquiries would be conducted. He also stated that New Delhi would remain vigilant regarding the issue.
Both parties expressed optimism about further enhancing bilateral ties, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, trust, and shared interests. They underscored the need for regular dialogue and constructive engagement, expressing confidence that such interactions would contribute to long-term, sustainable solutions to outstanding issues.
