Dhaka:Dr Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change, visited the July Uprising Memorial Museum, where he reviewed a collection of documents, artifacts, and other materials related to political repression, killings, enforced disappearances, and the July Uprising.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr Parvez had the opportunity to examine historical records, including official documents from Ganabhaban and materials documenting state-sponsored repression of political parties during a previous authoritarian regime.
Upon his arrival, Ehasan Mahamud, Director General of the museum, welcomed Dr Parvez. He inspected memorabilia commemorating army officers martyred in the BDR massacre and relics linked to other political killings.
Dr Parvez also viewed items related to enforced disappearances and instruments of torture allegedly used in secret detention facilities. He toured the museum's archives, memorial items, and photographic displays documenting the July Massacre, along with artifacts representing what was described as 16 years of misrule.
He emphasized the importance of preserving these historical records and the need to properly remember the sacrifices of those who were killed and injured. Dr Parvez also highlighted the significance of conveying the history of the uprising to future generations.
