Chandpur: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged the countrymen to remain vigilant, saying that a group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics. “A group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics. You should stay alert,” he said while addressing the Family Card distribution ceremony at Chandpur Government College ground here this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman, who is also the BNP chairman, emphasized that BNP’s politics focuses on changing the people’s fate through initiatives like dredging canals, increasing agricultural production, building new mills and factories, creating employment opportunities, ensuring healthcare, and guaranteeing public safety. He addressed the crowd, asking, “If anyone tries to create confusion or anarchy in the name of politics, will you remain silent? We will not remain silent. We will resist with an iron hand.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that every programme undertaken by BNP is aimed at improving the living standard of the country’s working-class people. He noted that they had ousted an autocratic regime through a movement to enable the transfer of power to an elected government, and now it is their turn to change people’s fate.
Along with Chandpur, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the Family Card distribution programme in 20 other districts via video conference, under the initiative of the Ministry of Social Welfare. During the event, he handed over Family Cards to ten women beneficiaries and facilitated the transfer of cash assistance to 15,000 women beneficiaries across Chandpur and other districts.
Urging everyone to work towards nation-building, Tarique Rahman stated, “Now is the time to work. Now is the time to build the country. Let’s dedicate ourselves to nation-building… we must remain alert so that no one can obstruct the path of nation-building.” He also called for a collective pledge, “Korbo Kaj, Gorbo Desh; Sobar Agee Bangladesh (We will work, we will build the country, Bangladesh first).”
The Prime Minister expressed support for local demands, such as establishing an EPZ and a Science and Technology University in Chandpur. He remarked that while the country’s people desire peace and stability, some groups are creating unnecessary controversies.
In his address, he recalled the public’s support during the February 12 election and reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing election promises with the people’s collaboration. The family card distribution ceremony drew thousands of party leaders, activists, supporters, and people from all walks of life, turning the event into a massive public rally.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain presided over the event, with several other ministers and officials in attendance. Family Card recipients Ruma Akhtar and Monowara Begum also praised the Prime Minister’s initiative during their speeches.
