Dhaka: BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to address a May Day rally organized by the Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal on May 1 at 2:30pm in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan. This announcement was made by BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press conference at the party’s central office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a joint meeting was convened prior to May Day, chaired by Mirza Fakhrul, to discuss the preparations necessary for the success of the event. Participants included BNP Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, and leaders from BNP’s associate bodies and city units.
During the press conference, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the significance of May Day as a global symbol of workers’ rights, underscoring the labor and sacrifices involved. He announced that all district and upazila units have been instructed to honor May Day appropriately.
Reflecting on the political landscape, Fakhrul highlighted the change brought about by a student-public uprising after 18 years of struggle against fascism. He noted that BNP emerged victorious in a neutral election and formed a government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, recognized for its fairness by domestic and international observers.
Fakhrul also warned of attempts to destabilize the political environment through misinformation, urging vigilance against conspiracies that could hinder the institutionalization of democracy. He called on the public to stay alert and learn from past experiences.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi reiterated that the Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal has made arrangements to observe May Day with dignity, as in previous years. He shared that several preparatory meetings have been conducted, with program details communicated through briefings, aiming for successful May Day celebrations.
