Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate the 'Jatiya Matsya Pakshya' event at Katiadi in Kishoreganj, announced State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salauddin Tuku.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made during a preparatory meeting held in Kishoreganj on Sunday. Tuku highlighted that the Greater Mymensingh region, where Katiadi is located, contributes nearly 40 percent of Bangladesh's total fish production, making it an ideal location for the event. The initiative seeks to showcase the potential, achievements, and contributions of fish farmers and entrepreneurs in the region.
Previously held in Dhaka, the programme has been relocated to a region with significant fishery activities and entrepreneurship. Tuku noted that this would mark Prime Minister Rahman's first visit to Kishoreganj since the election, underscoring the importance of hosting a national-level event outside the capital.
The state minister called on the administration, lawmakers, and local stakeholders to collaborate for the success of the programme. The meeting saw participation from lawmakers, district administration officials, police officials, and representatives from various government departments.
