Dhaka: Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today reinforced his government's commitment to meeting the expectations of the citizens, affirming that the administration is guided by the philosophy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He emphasized that the main objective of the government is to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people through the implementation of the BNP's election manifesto.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister made these remarks while participating as the chief guest in a discussion at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium. The event was organized by the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to commemorate the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Tarique Rahman called for comprehensive cooperation from party leaders, workers, and supporters, indicating that the times ahead would be challenging. He stressed the importance of working together to build the country in the way envisioned by Shaheed Zia and moving forward along that path. He recalled Ziaur Rahman's desire to make Bangladesh self-reliant by advancing every sector, and he reiterated that the current government is following those guidelines.
Addressing party members, Rahman emphasized that government success depends on the support of party workers. He pointed out that the 214 Members of Parliament and 50 cabinet members cannot achieve success alone, highlighting the essential role of BNP leaders and activists at the grassroots level in implementing government programs.
The Prime Minister also spoke on the role of BNP's affiliated bodies, such as Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and others, in ensuring the party's victory in the February 12 elections. He urged continued dedication to achieving success as a government by fulfilling the goals and programs outlined in the manifesto, which he stated has now become the people's manifesto following the election victory.
Rahman reaffirmed the government's commitment to restoring democracy and improving justice, education, and healthcare. He noted that the aspirations of the people were unfulfilled post-liberation war and that the BNP government is tasked with addressing these challenges during a critical period.
He underscored the importance of strengthening family education to prevent social degradation and mentioned instructing relevant authorities to work towards this goal. In remembrance of Ziaur Rahman, Rahman expressed pride in the recognition Ziaur Rahman brought to Bangladesh and called on party members to honor his legacy by successfully implementing the party's manifesto.
The discussion was chaired by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and attended by several BNP leaders and economists, who paid tribute to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman's contributions. The event concluded with a minute of silence and a special Munajat for Ziaur Rahman's soul.
