Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has significantly cut down on the use of lights and air-conditioners in his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, reducing usage by half in an effort to conserve electricity. The Prime Minister has also called on all ministries and institutions to practice similar austerity in their electricity consumption.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman reported that the Prime Minister initiated these measures after arriving at his office this morning. “Prime Minister arrived at his office at 9:10 am and immediately switched off 50 percent of the lights in his room and set the air-conditioning temperature to 25.1 degrees,” Ruman stated, highlighting that maintaining the AC at this level contributes to lower electricity usage.

In addition to his office, the Prime Minister directed that half of the lights be turned off and the AC temperature be adjusted in the Cabinet meeting room as well. Building No. 1 in the Secretariat, which includes the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Division, and other departments, has implemented these changes following his instructions.

The Additional Press Secretary mentioned that these adjustments were promptly executed in all rooms of the Prime Minister’s Office. Furthermore, Tarique Rahman urged all ministries at the Secretariat, government offices nationwide, private buildings, shopping malls, and commercial establishments to exercise greater caution in their electricity usage.

The Prime Minister also encouraged a reduction in artificial lighting during daylight hours, suggesting the use of natural sunlight by opening curtains and windows in both offices and homes.
